Most experts agree that slower weight loss is best. One and a half to two pounds a week is considered an ideal rate of weight loss. It is fast enough for the dieter to see changes in their body yet slow enough to not cause health complecations. Any weight loss faster than one half pound per day, 3 1/2 pounds per week, is considered too fast and could be hazardous.
Losing water weight is the only way you can lose weight quickly. But, the only water weight you want to lose would be associated with the fat you are losing. To reduce the water in the body without proportionate tissue loss causes dehydration. This is a dangerous thing to be doing to yourself. High water loss could cause blood pressure changes, dizziness, dark urine, a reduction in skin elasticity and many more undesirable effects. The only way to get rid of these side effects is to put the water back. If you do that -- what have you gained?
There are products on the market that claim to burn or block calories and fat. But consider the fact that if your body requires 2800 calories to maintain its present weight, this substance would have to burn up 6300 calories per day for you to lose one pound. If you were to eat nothing at all it would still have to burn up an additional 700 calories. We know the body goes into starvation mode at approximately 600 to 700 calories per day. What this means is the body stops using stored fat and begins to use vital organ tissue. In this example, you would be operating at -700 calories. This is referred as hyper-starvation mode. We know the average person can only last up to 40 days with no food. The body must have +700 calories every day just to stay alive.
Losing one pound of fat means 3500 extra calories have to be either eliminated from your normal diet, or burned off through extra exercise.
There are diets out there that say, "You can lose 30 pounds in 30 days." That's one pound per day. The average person uses 2400 to 2800 calories per day to maintain their body weight. How can they cut 3500 calories out of their diet when they are only consuming 2500 calories? Do the math.
Whether you are trying to lose 5 pounds or more than 50, the same simple laws of physics determine whether or not you will lose weight and how fast your weight loss will occur. Remembering these simple guidelines and putting them into practice can lead to weight loss without the aid of any special diet plans, books, or medications.
Our weight is determined by the amount of energy that we take in as food and the amount of energy we expend in the activities of our day. Energy is measured in calories. If your weight remains constant, you are probably taking in the same amount of calories you burn each day. If you're slowly gaining weight over time, it is likely that your caloric intake is greater than the number of calories you burn through your daily activities.
Everyone is in control of the amount of food he or she consumes each day, so our intake of calories is something we can control. To a major degree, we can also control our output of energy, or the number of calories we burn each day. The number of calories we burn each day is dependent upon
our basal metabolic rate (BMR), the number of calories we burn per hour simply by being alive and maintaining body functions and
our level of physical activity.
For some people, due to genetic (inherited) factors or other conditions, the resting metabolic rate (BMR) can be slightly higher or lower than average. Our weight also plays a role in determining how many calories we burn at calories are required to maintain your body in its present state, the greater your body weight. A 100-pound person requires less energy (food) to maintain body weight than a person who weighs 200 pounds.
Medical Weight Loss
While Lipo-Dissolve (Meso-Lipo therapy) is good for spot fat reduction, once you approximate your target weight, physician supervised medical weight loss at Solaris Medical, aka Solaris Med Spa, is an intensive program aimed at helping you lose weight, reduce fat percentage, make better lifestyle choices, and optimize your health to promote longevity. Our program is NOT designed to encourage you to buy pre-packaged meals that may or may not be always available to you or even healthy, but rather help you to make the right choices so that eventual termination of the program will enable you to continue your path of wellness. The program helps you to improve your diet, exercise, and lifestyle, while reducing health morbidities, such as dyslipidemia, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes. Teamwork from both the patient and the doctor are expected. In addition to medications, weekly B-12 shots will help restore your energy. Indirect calorimetry, every 3 months, will identify your personal caloric need so you'll know how much to eat and/or how much to exercise to lose weight. You will be coached on your diet and exercise regimen. So come committed.
A comprehensive lab (blood) work-up is first analyzed to reveal any physiologic barriers to natural weight loss. The labs help identify if the weight gain is in part a result of an imbalance of hormones such as thyroid, insulin, testosterone, growth hormone, and/or cortisol. Metablolic testing through indirect calorimetry is assessed to determine how many calories you actually need to sustain bodily activities. This result is compared with your total caloric intake from your diet diary and your energy expenditure from your exercise. Weight gain and weight loss is ultimately an imbalance of caloric intake and caloric expenditure. To help you get control, a medication can be prescribed to suppress appetite and increase metabolism. The plan includes a weekly B-12 shot, a weekly weigh-in, medication, EKG, diet diary, metabolic testing, and accountability. Accountability is strongly encouraged. The client is expected to put forth effort to change their lifestyle that will promote health through better eating and exercise. The client should NOT expect to lose weight by simply taking a pill and/or eating a pre-packaged meal plan. The core of the program is to correct the physiologic deficiencies through medications, nutriceuticals, and correct lifestyle flaws through better eating habits, and exercise.
